Asha Tai, We Love You: Anushka Manchanda

Asha Tai, We Love You: Anushka ManchandaA series of musical evenings entitled the Dum Maro Dum Nite are being planned across the metros of India in the next two weeks.

It's reliably learnt that these stage performances which are currently being kept a secret, would feature Rana Daggubati's newly-found skills on the guitar along with Anushka Manchanda who has sung the title song, and Pritam Chakraborty who has 'composed' the music (not taking stock of he fact that poor Rahul Dev Burman spent a good month creating the Dum maro dum track for Dev Anand's Hare Rama Hare Krishna).

Abhishek Bachchan who has sung one of the songs in Dum maro dum is also expected to warble on stage for the Dum Maro Dum Nite.

But the big news is that the singing diva Asha Bhosle who sang the original Dum maro dum track to ever-lasting fame in 1971, is expected to give her blessings for the Dum Maro Dum nites.

Ashaji, never known to mince words, has cut down all comparisons between her version of Dum maro dum and the new-age version sung by Anushka. "Just because you call a hotel 'Taj' it doesn't become the Taj Mahal, " Ashaji is quoted as saying.

Apparently the team behind Dum Maro Dum is busy persuading the diva to bring her formidable presence into the new version of the song.

Vijay Singh, the CEO of Fox Star India who have co-produced Dum Maro Dum is guarded in disclosing their on-stage plans visa-a-vis Asha Bhosle. "All I can say is, we would be very happy and proud if she gave us her thumbs up.

At the moment I am not at liberty to say anything more. We'd like Ashaji to know that Dum maro dum is not just a song for us. It's the heartbeat of our film. It's our film's title. Our song and film are a homage to Ashaji and R. D Burman. "

It remains to be seen if Asha Bhosle joins the team for the Dum Maro Dum Nite in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore in the coming weeks.

Interestingly the team does not intend to take the Dum Maro Dum Nite to Goa the place where the film is located. Apparently the heat of the Goan authorities who have raised objections to the way the touristic place has been projected in the film, would be too much for the Dum Maro Dum to handle.

Says Vijay Singh, "We're restricting ourselves to the metros. Goa is not part of our Dum Maro Dum Nite plans. "

As for Rana Daggubati on stage the popular Telugu star promises, "I can't reveal the exact plans. But no one will be disappointed. "

JLo's cousin Caterina bows down to the Sheilas & Munnis

JLo`s cousin Caterina bows down to the Sheilas & MunnisCaterina is international pop star Jennifer Lopez's cousin and loves everything about Bollywood - its song-dance culture, superstar Shah Rukh Khan and it's fun experience. She feels that Hollywood has become too repetitive and says she bows down to the "beautiful Sheilas and Munnis" as they are "awesome".

She will make her Bollywood debut with an item song in the movie "Bhindi Baazaar. Inc".

"Bollywood style of dancing is not easy. Everybody thinks it is easy, but it's not! I bow down to beautiful Sheilas and Munnis because they are awesome. I am getting the hang of it," Caterina, a trained hip-hop and salsa dancer, told in an interview.

"I feel Hollywood needs to change things around as the movies are becoming too repetitive. May be they could just start having some singing and dancing in their movies.

"In Bollywood films, you have a lot of singing and dancing whereas Hollywood is just about acting. So I find Bollywood really attractive, it's fun," she added.

Caterina is ready to woo Indian audiences with her groves in the item song "Taan ke seena" and says it was quite a challenge for her.

"For me, learning Hindi words, being able to lip sync them and pronoucing them correctly was definitely difficult, but it was a good learning experience," she said.

"I am a huge fan of movies and I also read about the war going on between Munni and Sheila. I felt the songs were the typical Hindi movie item songs and I loved them."

She enjoys her on and off stay in India.

"Experience of shooting for the film was good. Everybody on the sets and all the actors were very helpful. I didn't really know anyone. I was also nervous about how everything will work, but everyone was fun on the sets. They used to crack jokes whenever I was stressed out," said Caterina.

"When you are filming for a Bollywood movie, there are a hundred people on the set and that is something I wasn't really used to. So I had to pretend that there are not too many people around," added Bollywood's new item girl who worked as a model in New York earlier.

Born and brought up in Arizona, Caterina comes from a big family - she has seven brothers and sisters.

Caterina is a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan and Imran Khan, but she wants to do an item song with Akshay.

"I have a huge crush on Shah Rukh Khan, I haven't got a chance to meet him but hopefully I will. His smile is amazing and he is very smart. The way he promotes and pushes himself, it's very fascinating. Imran Khan is a very good actor. I saw him in 'Luck' and he was amazing," she said.

"I really want to do an item song with Akshay Kumar because I feel we will have the best chemistry ever; he seems like so hilarious, I like him," she added.

Caterina is happy to see that Bollywood is opening up to foreigners and unlike the common perception that foreigners come and go, she says she is here to stay for long.

He has been staying alone at his Panvel farmhouse for the last few days working out at his specially constructed gym for two hours each day."

He might be coming back today but not to watch the match.

Ranbir isn't dating Nargis and most certainly not Anushka Sharma

Ranbir isn`t dating Nargis and most certainly not Anushka SharmaThe image of the insatiable womanizer has begun to get to Ranbir Kapoor. He's no longer amused. And neither are his parents.

According to a very close friend of Ranbir, the last straw was the link-up with Anushka Sharma. After this rumour broke out, Ranbir's father Rishi Kapoor finally asked his boy to do something about the endless gossip.

Says the friend, "More than himself Ranbir is embarrassed because of his parents. He can take any kind of flak or rumour. But if his parents get affected he reacts. And now Ranbir has had enough. He won't take the Casanova image lying down. "

Says the friend, "Ranbir is specially cheesed off by the rumours about Nargis Fakhri. He has never treated her as anything more than a co-star. Ranbir goes out with her, yes. But only in a group with his other friends. "

Ranbir's friend says there's a valid reason for why the star was seen with Nargis at a movie recently.

"Nargis is under an exclusive contract with Asthvinayak the producers of Rockstar. She can't be seen at public events or at social gatherings with people outside her Rockstar team. Her most logical instinct is to hang around with her Rockstar co-star Ranbir and his friends. "

Speaking on the much-reported movie where Ranbir and Nargis were spotted together the concerned friend reveals, "Ranbir was keen to see The King's Speech—and not Black Swan as reported in the press—with his buddy Ayan Mukerjee.

Nargis wanted to come along. Which she did, with a female friend of hers, at the PVR.

During interval when Ranbir came out there were more than 50 press photographers waiting to click him and Nargis together… at 11 pm!

Who informed the press? Certainly not Ranbir or Nargis or their friends who accompanied them for the movie. "

Ranbir's friend feels the image of the womanizer is being carried to the extreme and being planted by "vested interests" only to show that the actor is not as serious about his work as his colleagues.

Defends the friend, "Ranbir eats sleeps breathes his work. But all he gets written about is his the woman. It's come to a point where his friends constantly make jokes about his libido.

Ranbir is offended, deeply offended because now his parents are offended."

The giddy limit according to Ranbir's family is the linkup with Anushka Sharma.

Laughs the friend, "Isn't she seeing Ranveer Singh? Why would Ranbir cosy up to someone else's girl? It was reported that he was with Anushka in the backseat of their car. Wrong!

Ranbir was in the front seat with his friend Ayan. Anushka was on the backseat with Ranveer Singh. They all drove to the Olive for a meal where there were joined by Shahid Kapoor. "

So selfconscious has Ranbir become of his image of the wild lover-boy that he has decided to now gravitate to the other end.

Says Ranbir, "That isn't me that's being written about. I've had enough. I just want to withdraw from the limelight completely for sometime. "

Veena Malik to boost adrenaline at Mohali semifinal

Veena Malik to boost adrenaline at Mohali semifinalIf all goes well, Pakistan's hottest export to India Veena Malik will be seen at Mohali Wednesday with soulmate Ashmit Patel by her side cheering for her country at the cricket World Cup semifinal featuring the two countries.

Veena who loves cricket and cricketers is at the moment divided in her love for actor Ashmit and the game.

She is in India to be part of two cricket shows on Indian television.

"Some people compare me to Mandira Bedi. But I am happy being who I am. I love cricket, though commenting on it is not something I thought I would do. But life is such. You never knew where it takes you, " Veena said.

At the moment it is off to Mohali for Veena where she will be sharing seating space (so to speak) with her country's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani watching the two countries playing a game that unites both sides even at the time of infinite stress and discord.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will also watch the game with his Pakistani counterpart.

Veena is very sure about where her loyalties lie.

"It's very simple, really. My heart says I should support Pakistan at the match. It has given me my identity and all I have. India, on the other hand, has given me so much love and fabulous career opportunities."

So how will the saucy temptress who has defiantly thrown off the burqa, cope with the main 'idhar-jaaon-yaa-udhar-jaaon' dilemma?

"The Indian team is a favourite to win the Cup. But I am Pakistani. So I will paint the Pakistan flag on one cheek and the Indian flag on the other cheek. And may the best team win on Wednesday, " said the actor.

Veena does have her favourites among the cricketers from both sides.

"Yuvraj and Afridi both play from the heart and believe in playing fair cricket. No one can buy their loyalties. I'm a huge fan of Sachin Tendulkar, but only when he isn't playing against Pakistan, " she said.

And Veena bursts into loud laughter.

Her other entertainer-colleague from Pakistan, pop star Ali Zafar is not quite a cricket fiend.

Though he was not available for comment and would not be in the country to watch the match Wednesday, a source close to Ali said, "Ali isn't into politics or cricket. Music is his life. And now he's into acting.

He would like to keep his art free of politics and the politics of cricket.

But yes he does equally enjoy watching the maestros of both the teams doing their thing on the field."

For Adnan Sami who has made Mumbai his home for 10 years now the situation gets tricky.

He has close ties with Pakistan and the Pakistani prime minister and has chosen to stay away from the match to avoid his loyalty being questioned.

Not that Adnan's loyalty is under inspection. Says the super-gifted musician, "I'm only remotely interested in cricket as a sport and find it ludicrous to give it a political connotation.

Pakistani or Indian, we should treat the match as a game."

If India wins, I will strip!

If India wins, I will strip!Poonam Pandey, The Most Downloaded Model on the Internet to go Bare ALL if......

Crossing all limits to celebrate India's win against Pakistan in high-voltage semi-final match of the World Cup tomorrow, cricket crazy model Poonam Pandey has decided to go full monty.

According to reports, the Mumbai-based model will go nude in front of the entire stadium if India manages to beat arch-rival Pakistan in the mouth-watering match and lift the World cup. Quickly amending her statement, she seeks BCCI nod for the daring act to bare it all.

"This is just to motivate the Men in Blue, " said Poonam adding "she won't hesitate giving private show to them in the dressing room as well."

The model has also opened a fan page on Facebook to cheer Team India.

Poonam follows the likes of lingerie models like Larissa Riquelme of Paraguay and Luciana Salazar of Argentina who had vowed to go nude if their football teams win the FIFA world cup. Poonam says, "I'm a cricket fanatic and I'm a die-hard supporter of my nation. India needs a lot of support and this is my way of supporting the team."

Wonder how this will help the team. Clearly this is an attempt to get publicity, however she insists, "Absolutely not. As being the Most Downloaded Model on the Internet I dont need to do such things for publicity I'm confident of my body and I'm doing this to Motivate our boys to play better."

Salman ousts Akshay Kumar from ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ season 4

This could turn out to be one clincher which Bollywood khiladi Akshay Kumar would rue for long. Buzz has it that Salman Khan has replaced Akki in the fourth season of the incredibly adventurous reality show 'Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi'.
This could also prove to be a bigger blow to Akshay when compared to his dismal performance in a string of flops last year.

Grapevine is abuzz that Salman`s friendship with the channel`s head may have lead to a change in loyalties. Speaking to a daily, a source said, "After successful runs with '10 Ka Dum' and 'Bigg Boss 4' and his runaway hit, 'Dabangg', Salman is on a hot streak. The clincher could be BB4`s higher TRPs than Akshay has ever had on his show for the same channel."

A source close to the actor further revealed - "Salman shot a promo for KKK4 in Bangkok while shooting for Bhushan Kumar`s `Ready`. He would never shoot a promo unless he had signed a contract. The channel is debating on how to break the news to Akshay who was kicked about hosting the show`s fourth season."
Salman undoubtedly has also won the war of television ratings (TRPs), with 'Bigg Boss 4', taking a clear lead over Akshay's 'Masterchef India'.

The channel on the other hand replaced Akki in the second season with Priyanka Chopra, but Akshay's image so etched with the theme of the show compelled the makers to bring him back in its third season

About Salman Khan

Salman Khan (Hindi: सलमान ख़ान, Urdu: عبد الرشید سلیم سلمان خان, pronounced [səlˈmaːn ˈxaːn]; born Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan on 27 December 1965) is an Indian film actor. He has appeared in more than 80 Hindi films.
Khan, who made his acting debut with a minor role in the drama Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988), had his first commercial success with the blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), for which he won a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He went on to star in some of Hindi cinema's most successful films of those times, such as Saajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998) and Biwi No.1 (1999), having appeared in the highest earning films of seven separate years during his career.
In 1999, Khan won a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his extended appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), and since then has starred in several critical and commercial successes, including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Tere Naam (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005), Partner (2007), Wanted (2009) and Dabangg (2010), which has become the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of all-time. Khan has thus established himself as one of the most prominent, leading, and successful actors of Hindi cinema.[

Early life

Khan is the eldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife Salma (maiden name Sushila Charak), his paternal grandfather came to India from Afghanistan and settled in Madhya Pradesh whereas his mother is a Marathi Brahmin.[5][6] His stepmother is Helen, a former Bollywood actress, who has co-starred with him in Khamoshi: The Musical (1996) and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). He has two brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, and two sisters, Alvira and Arpita. Alvira is married to actor/director Atul Agnihotri.
Khan finished his schooling through St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai, as did his younger brothers Arbaaz and Sohail. Earlier, he studied at The Scindia School, Gwalior for a few years along with younger brother Arbaaz.

[edit] Career

[edit] 1980s

Salman Khan made his acting debut with a supporting role in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi. His first leading role in a Bollywood movie was in Sooraj R. Barjatya's romantic family drama Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), one of India's highest grossing films.[7] It also won him a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award, and a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor Award.

[edit] 1990s

1990 saw one film release starring Khan, Baaghi: A Rebel for Love, alongside southern actress Nagma. The film was a box office success,[8] followed by three hit films in 1991, Patthar Ke Phool, Sanam Bewafa and Saajan.[9] Despite these early successes, nearly all of his 1992-1993 releases resulted in box office failures.[9]
Khan returned to success in 1994 with his second collaboration with director Sooraj Barjatya in the romance Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, co-starring Madhuri Dixit. This film was the biggest hit of that year, and turned out to be one of Bollywood's highest grossing films ever, becoming the fourth-highest earner of all time.[10] Three more films released that year featuring Khan, none of which making a significant impact on the box-office as was the case with the previously mentioned title. He did however win praise for his performance in Andaz Apna Apna, alongside co-star Aamir Khan, which has gained a cult status since its release. In 1995 he cemented his success with Rakesh Roshan's blockbuster Karan Arjun, co-starring alongside Shahrukh Khan.[9] The film was the second biggest hit of the year, and his role of Karan once again put his name among the nominees for the Best Actor award at the Filmfare, which was eventually won by his Karan Arjun co-star Shahrukh Khan.
In 1996, Khan performed in two movies, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directional debut Khamoshi: The Musical, a box office failure, but critically acclaimed; and Raj Kanwar's action hit Jeet.
He had two releases in 1997: Judwaa and Auzaar. The former was a comedy directed by David Dhawan co-starring Karisma Kapoorand Rambha, where he played a dual role of twins separated at birth. The film was a box office hit. The latter, co-starring Shilpa Shetty failed to do well.
Khan worked in five different films in 1998, his first release being the comedy Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya opposite Kajol, one of the biggest commercial successes of that year. This was followed by the moderately successful drama Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai.[9] Khan played a young man who has to take a child who claims to be his son, under his custody. Khan's performance in the film earned him several positive notices and favourable reviews from critics. He rounded of the year with an extended cameo in Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai for which he earned a second Filmfare Award under the Best Supporting Actor category.
In 1999, Khan starred in three films: Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United, Biwi No.1, which became the top grossing film that year; and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which earned another Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare.

[edit] 2000s

In 2000, Khan acted in films including Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke addressed the issue of surrogate childbirth; Khan played the role of a rich industrialist, who hires a surrogate mother after his wife becomes infertile. Critics noted his turn towards a more serious role, which reportedly had more substance in comparison to his previous roles.[11][12] In 2002 he starred in the delayed release Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam which was semi-hit at the box office.
Khan's following releases failed at the box office until he made a comeback in 2003 with Tere Naam. The film was a major earner and his performance was praised by critics, with film critic Taran Adarsh noting, "Salman Khan is exceptional in a role that fits him to the T. He breathes fire in sequences that demand uneasiness. But beneath the tough exterior lies a vulnerable person and this facet in particular comes to the fore in the latter reels. His emotional outbursts are splendid..."[13] He subsequently continued his success at the box office, with comedies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005).[9] 2006 was an unsuccessful year for him when Jaan-E-Mann and Baabul both failed to do well at the box office.
Khan started 2007 with the ensemble film Salaam E Ishq which failed to do well at the box office. His next release Partner did very well at the box office, receiving a blockbuster verdict.[14] He next appeared in his first Hollywood movie, Marigold: An Adventure in India opposite American actress Ali Larter. Telling the love story of an Indian man and an American woman, the film was a major failure, both commercially and critically.
Khan starred in three films throughout 2008, all of which underperformed,[15] though his second film of the year, Heroes, met with praise from critics.
Khan hosted the second season of 10 Ka Dum in year 2009 which turned out to be even more successful than his first season as host of the game show in year 2008. The show got very high TRPs for Sony Entertainment Television and according to reports, the show helped Sony TV regain its third position in the Indian television ratings.[16]
Khan's first film of 2009, Wanted directed by choreographer turned director Prabhu Deva was declared a smash hit in its first weekend of release itself. The action film turned out to be a huge success. The movie got more recognition for its slick action sequences performed by the actor himself. In the same year, he appeared in two other films, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and London Dreams, both of which were failures at the box office.

[edit] 2010s

Khan's first release of 2010, Anil Sharma's Veer underperformed at the box office. Khan's recent film, Dabangg produced by his brother Arbaaz Khan, was released on September 10, 2010. It made a record opening at the box office[17] and was declared an all time blockbuster and the second-highest grossing Indian movie of all-time.[18] For his performance in Dabangg, Khan received his first Star Screen Award for Best Actor and first Stardust Award for Star of the Year – Male and was nominated for his sixth Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Anupama Chopra from NDTV wrote about his performance, "It's the role of a lifetime and Salman Khan bites into it like a starving man devours a feast. He inhabits it fully, strutting and swaggering and even, spoofing himself."[19]

[edit] Personal life

In 2004, he was voted seventh best-looking man in the world and the best looking man in India by People magazine, U.S.[20] Khan has been involved in several charities during his career.[21]
On 11 October 2007, Khan accepted an offer from Madame Tussauds wax museum in London to have a wax replica made of himself. His life-size wax figure was installed there on 15 January 2008, making him the fourth Indian actor to have been replicated as a wax statue in the museum.[22][23]

[edit] Controversies

[edit] Legal troubles

On 28 September 2002, Khan was arrested for rash and negligent driving. His car had run into a bakery in Mumbai; one person who was sleeping on the pavement outside the bakery died and three others were injured in the mishap.[24] Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped, and he was found not guilty. However, he will still have to stand trial for a series of lesser charges pertaining to the incident.[25]
On 17 February 2006, Khan was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting an endangered species, the Chinkara. The sentence was stayed by a higher court during appeal.[26] On 10 April 2006, Salman was handed a five year jail term for hunting the endangered Chinkara. He was remanded to Jodhpur jail, and remained there until 13 April when he was granted bail.[27] On 24 August 2007, the Jodhpur sessions court, upheld the 5 year jail term for Khan in the Chinkara poaching case by turning down his appeal against the 2006 judgement. At the time of the hearing, he was busy with a shooting elsewhere, while his sister attended the proceedings.[28] The day after, he was placed under police arrest in Jodhpur after a Rajasthan court upheld a prison sentence passed upon him for poaching. On 31 August 2007, Khan was released on bail from the Jodhpur Central jail where he spent six days.

[edit] Breakup with Aishwarya Rai

His relationship with actress Aishwarya Rai was a well publicised topic in the Indian media.[29] After their break-up in March 2002, Rai accused him of harassing her. She claimed that Khan had not been able to come to terms with their break-up and was hounding her; her parents lodged a complaint against him.[30]
In 2005, news outlets released what was said to be an illicit copy of a mobile phone call recorded in 2001 by the Mumbai police. It appeared to be a call in which he threatened Rai, in an effort to force her to appear at social events held by Mumbai crime figures. The call featured boasts of connections to organized crime and derogatory comments about other actors. However, the alleged tape was tested in the government's Forensic lab in Chandigarh, which concluded that it was fake.[31][32]

[edit] Fatwas

In September 2007, a Muslim organisation issued a fatwa against Khan for attending a Ganesh puja. Stating that Islam prohibits idol worship, the organisation stated that unless Khan reads the kalma — the declaration of faith — all over again, he will not be considered a Muslim. In addition to that, Khan celebrated the Ganesh Mahotsav with his family in Bandra; they brought a Ganesh idol for one day for the sake of his stepmother, Helen. Khan was among the group who danced in the procession. His father responded by criticising the fatwa and stated that Salman had done nothing wrong.[33]
Another fatwa was raised against Khan by a Muslim cleric in India, mufti Salim Ahmad Qasmi, for allowing Madame Tussauds in London to make a wax model of himself. The mufti said the statue is illegal and the Sharia forbids depictions of all living creatures. This created speculation in the press, as no fatwa was released against fellow Muslim, Shahrukh Khan who also has a wax model in the museum. Salman responded by saying, "These fatwas are becoming a joke".[34]
The fatwa was raised upon Khan again in September 2008, for celebrating the Ganeshotsav Hindu ceremony at his home with the family. The fatwa was raised by the member of the Advisory Council, Jama Masjid, in New Delhi. Once again his father, Salim, questioned the latest fatwa and criticised those who raise it.[35][36]
