Google: The Most Valuable Brand in The World

BrandFinance, a brand valuation consulting firm has rated Google as the world's most valuable brand name.

Google's brand was determined as being worth $44.2 billion, up a whopping 23 percent from 2010. The company was the only one to receive a AAA+ brand rating.

The second place is Microsoft, which is there easily because it's the largest software maker in the world. The Windows maker climbed up from number five to be second to Google.

IBM took 4th, Vodafone took 5th, Apple took 8th and AT&T rose to 10th. Apple made a huge leap to eighth place, up from 20th last year.

"The rise of the technology brands has been expected for some time, although Nokia's fall shows that it is tough to stay at the forefront of such a dynamic industry," BrandFinance CEO David Haigh said in a statement.

Wal-Mart was last year's winner but fell to 3rd in 2011.

Will the boom of tablets like iPad last long? Microsoft and Dell doubt it

With the Apple's iPad tablet computer sweeping the consumer electronics industry, the software giant Microsoft is not very bullish about the future of this new category while Dell says iPad will fail in the enterprise.

At a lunch held today in Sydney by the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA), Microsoft's global chief research and strategy officer Craig Mundie said that he did not know whether the booming new category was here to stay.

Mundie said he believed the smartphone "as it emerges more will become your most personal computer", while laptops would occupy a space he dubbed the "portable desk".

"I don't know whether the big screen tablet pad category is going to remain with us or not," he said.

In the meanwhile, Dell's global head of marketing for large enterprises and public organisations, Andy Lark, said that iPad would ultimately fail in the enterprise.

"Apple is great if you've got a lot of money and live on an island. It's not so great if you have to exist in a diverse, open, connected enterprise; simple things become quite complex." Andy Lark said.

Andy Lark also backed Android for enterprise, "Apple has done a really nice job, they've got a great product, but the challenge they've got is that already Android is outpacing them."

Google Introduces Plus One Feature

Google introduced a new feature to its search engine. It is a feature that enables users to users to recommend and share search results they like with friends with a simple one-click button.Posted in Internet, News  by Eric

Google's 'Plus One' will initially be limited to a mere 2% of Google's English Language users in America. The tool will be very similar to Facebook's 'Like' tool which has become universally used by websites outside of Facebook.

The feature will involve a small icon located next to each search result. Those users that are loggin into their g-mail accounts will be able to share links with friends via a host of Google services. Eventually it is hoped to spread onto Twitter and possibly even Facebook allowing users share with contacts.

The results of user recommendations will potentially influence the ranking of sites in Google's search result listings. It will lead to a more transparent and user based search engine.

Google also announced plans to expand the service to news publishers to ensure popular and relevant news is more visible.
